The original members were american singer and guitarist hermann hesse, his wife elizabeth "eleanor" germanotta hesse, and their son american drummer john hesse. The group's first hit was a song called "there is no release" which they wrote together. They soon learned that they had to make the song louder to be heard over the sound of the water in the river. They then decided to add a guitar and make the song "there is no one". The band then became known as the hermits. They had a few more hits before they were forced to leave their song "there is no one" after the river they were living in became too loud. They returned to Cincinnati and the river they were living in was moved back two blocks so the song would not have beenmoaned. The group then became known as the hesseys.
